"Looking at the Legends" - An evening of absolute bliss!
October 2nd, 2011.
The British College auditorium was a full house. They were about to witness an evening of musical excellence. Three musicians...Three friends...Three doctors...Together on one stage!!!Together would provide a breathtaking performance of musical entertainment. A night no doubt will be one that would last in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to be present. It was Suran Kuruppu, Gananath Dassanayake and Hirantha Ariyadasa's first real stage performance. Even though they have been in the music industry for quite sometime the extremely busy days at Medical School and then a hectic year of internship had kept them quiet for a while. But their passion for music was like a sleeping volcano....burning inside waiting for that moment to let lose. And that moment had arrived. They unleashed their passion with glory. Taking an audience of over 400 guests into 2 complete hours of ecstasy, they gave a flawless performance. With a variation of classical hits ranging from the great Beatles to the ever so loved Simon and Garfunkel, they took the crowed to an era of musical revolution.....the 70s and 80s. The show was given that special tinge of essence by guest artists such as the De Lanerol brothers and Allan Outschoorn. A sounds of a wide variety of rich musical instruments filled the walls of the British College auditorium and ended with a loud "encore" from an ecstatic audience. In the sidelines........
I have to say I'm proud to be close friends of these three very talented musicians. It goes way back to my schooling days when I first got to know these three...strangely they were not together back then. Gananath was very famous at S.Thomas' where I schooled!!! Not so much for music though:p And then I met this really friendly little guy at my literature class....he was one of the most interesting guys I've ever bumped into. You should have a pretty good idea who I'm referring to;) And of course Suran...met him at my A/L Biology class...he was one of the most talented musicians I knew back then...and thanks to him I got into a bit of a musical career myself!!!
I was lucky enough to have known them from the very beginning of their musical career. I had the privilege to perform with these artists side by side at various occasions. They were always a great motivation to myself even though I did not pursue such a career. But those memories will live forever.
Hope you guys will rise to the very top very soon.
Good luck!
